Top 5 Places to Visit in Riyadh with Family for a Fun-Filled Day

Places to Visit in Riyadh with Family

Let’s be honest finding places to visit in Riyadh with family that keeps kids, parents, and even that one grumpy uncle happy isn’t that easy.

The boys want adventure while the old ones want to relax and the kids just want to run wild and free in a big open space.

The good news?

Riyadh has plenty of family-friendly attractions where you can do all that and more.

If you are in the mood for adventure, shopping sprees, or something a little more educational (without feeling like homework).

There’s a perfect place waiting for you.

When I first arrived in Riyadh I didn’t have a person to guide me

BUT

You have me!

I have visited tons of places with my family and these five spots are what I will recommend to everyone visiting Riyadh with family.

So tell your kids to pack up and let me guide you.

1.    King Abdullah Park For Families

If your family or most importantly those little kids want to run wild in lush green spaces and fresh air then this park will be a perfect weekend choice for you.

The reason I love this place is because of the huge area it covers. You will never feel like the place is crowded.

The huge lake and greenery is something that people often miss in Riyadh but this place makes it possible.

OH!

Don’t miss the water fountain show. It makes you feel like you’re at a mini version of the Bellagio except you’re in Riyadh, and there’s probably a kid running past you with a balloon.

Best Things to Do

Watch the dancing fountain show: It lights up at night, and honestly, it’s kind of mesmerizing. Make sure your cameras are charged.
Have a picnic: Bring a bag full of snacks because there are plenty of spots around where you can sit back and relax. There are some tea and coffee stalls too so don’t worry about that. Just be warned seagulls pigeons are professional-level beggars.
Let the kids loose: The play areas are spacious, and yes, they will get tired (which means a quiet car ride home… victory!).

2.    Al Nakheel Mall For Families

Sometimes you don’t need fresh air but instead, you want air-conditioning, endless food options, and a little retail therapy.

If you think this mall is only for shopping then you are totally wrong.

Shopping is only half the fun (or maybe a quarter, depending on how distracted you get).

The mall has endless options of things like arcades, adventure zones, and enough dining choices to make even the pickiest eater happy.

The kids will enjoy running wild in the shops and elevators while you and your loved one pick some new outfits for dinner.

AND YEAH!

The food here is amazing so don’t even think of skipping that.

Best Things to Do

Shop, obviously: You will see both local and international brands with items that suit every budget and taste out there.
Take the kids to the adventure zones: If you want to leave your kids and enjoy your shopping then take them to the adventure zone where they can climb, jump, and be kids without hurting themselves.
Catch a movie: A movie night with family is my favorite relief after a long week.
Try out the food court: Well, walking around the mall counts as a workout and you need some energy. You will get to see all the popular food places here.

3.    Riyadh Park Mall

People think all malls are the same with just some shops and food courts.

Park Mall will change that perception for you.

This mall throws in an indoor amusement park, a massive cinema, and enough entertainment to make your family forget they came here just to “grab a few things.”

If the weather isn’t cool enough to enjoy in parks with family then Riyadh Park Mall is where I go. The options here will leave you scratching your head for a few minutes.

The luxury movie theater is my favorite and I usually watch all the new movies with my family in this place.

If your kids want to enjoy a roller coaster ride or jump around in the play zone they will not be short of options.

AND

You can just sit there and sip on your coffee.

Best Things to Do

Visit the indoor amusement park: If you have some thrill seekers in your family they will love the amusement places here.
Go on a shopping spree: If you want luxury brands or local shops the options will leave you confused.
Catch a movie at Vox Cinemas:  The comfy reclining seats will give you comfort that you can’t find anywhere else in Riyadh. You might just take a nap there.

Enjoy the dining options: From fast food to fancy restaurants, your biggest struggle will be choosing where to eat.

4.    Saqer Aljazirah Aviation Museum

We already talked about historical places in Riyadh previously but this museum is a good family place especially if you have aviation enthusiasts in your group.

The thing I love about this place is that you are not just looking at planes here.

STEP INSIDE THEM!

You will get to see massive fighter jets and some aircrafts that have a long history stored in them.

You are enjoying with family and also learning (that’s a win, right?).

Best Things to Do

Check out the fighter jets: It did remind me of all the action movies I watched and is a unique experience.
Step inside a real cockpit: I always wanted to see how those cockpits look and you get a chance to experience that here.
Learn about aviation history: You will learn about Saudi Arabia’s air force and aviation industry.
Take lots of photos: Trust me, this place will make your Instagram carousels go viral.

5.    Wadi Namar

Sometimes all you need is a break from those huge screens, big buildings, and honking cars that are all over Riyadh.

This place is ideal for family and has a huge lake, scenic walking trails, and picnic spots that make you want to stay all day.

The lake adds a refreshing touch to the place (yes, there are actual fish in there!). The open spaces help you relax and give your kids a chance to run without bumping into any shelves or furniture.

Best Things to Do

Have a picnic by the lake: The best thing you can do here is bring some snacks and enjoy the atmosphere without any distractions.
Go for a walk or bike ride: What’s better than burning some calories or riding your bike?
Watch the waterfall: It’s a small one, but this kind of waterfall in Riyadh does feel magical.
Stay for the sunset: The sunset and Riyadh skyline looks beautiful at night from this place. Maybe even take a few family photos too.
