travel bag with camera in Riyadh

If you are trying to figure out things to do in Riyadh then let me tell you. You will never run out of ways to chill, explore, and eat your heart out in this city.

Over the years I have explored every corner of Saudi’s capital from its ancient landmarks like the Masmak Fortress to trendy spots like U-Walk and trust me, you will never get bored.

And don’t even get me started on the food scene Al Baik, I’m looking at you!

So grab your new shoes or forks if you are a foodie and let’s see what Riyadh has to offer its visitors.

1.     Explore Al Bujairi Heritage Park

If you are someone who likes history with a touch of modern vibes then this place should be on top of your list. This place is an absolute gem and don’t forget to bring your camera (or at least make sure your phone’s charged!).

You will want to spend hours here looking at those beautiful traditional mudbrick buildings, inviting cafes, and open walkways.

Going through the ancient streets of Diriyah you will feel like you just went back to ancient times.

WHAT ABOUT THE VIEW?

In one word it would be UNREAL!

The views of At-Turaif, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are absolutely breathtaking.

Stay here for the sunset and those golden hues in the sky will totally shock you (in a good way).

A quick tip: Visit in the evening when the lights create a magical atmosphere, adding an extra layer of charm to your visit.

2.     Sky Bridge

If you are not a history person and enjoy some thrill then the Sky Bridge is your next stop. Located at the kingdom tower this place will literally take your breath away both because of the view and the ride up there.

For a height of 300m in the sky you will get a bird’s eye view of the whole city which is nothing short of spectacular.

It all starts with a high-speed elevator that takes you to the top floor and feels like something out of a sci-fi movie.

Once you are at the top floor you will want to take pictures from every corner because this view of Riyadh cannot be seen anywhere else.

If you visit during the daytime you will spot popular landmarks and endless cityscapes but at night it feels like you are floating over the stars.

I LOVE BOTH THE VIEWS!

Bonus: There’s a shopping mall below, so you can treat yourself to a coffee.

3.     Stroll Around U-Walk

The next place is for those people who love shopping and walking (that’s a good combination).

This place has everything from restaurants and cafes to clothing stores and bakeries. I’ve spent more evenings here than I care to admit, grabbing a latte and walking around like I own the place (don’t we all?).

The setup around the area is modern and spacious with outdoor seating, bright lights, and just the right number of people to keep the place alive without being overcrowded.

It’s the kind of spot where you can grab sushi at one place, dessert at another, and maybe end with a bubble tea.

OH!

If you are looking for some new photos for your Instagram account then the funky shopfronts and colorful murals will get everyone’s attention.

4.     Feast at Al Baik

If you haven’t tried Al Baik what are you even doing in Riyadh? This is the place where you find the most juicy, delicious, and tender chicken in the whole Middle East.

When you visit this place you will see a huge line of people eagerly waiting, the smell of fried chicken in the air, and me on the side waiting to pick up my order.

The broasted chicken and nuggets are the most popular dishes here which are perfectly seasoned and crunchy on the outside.

Let’s not forget about the garlic sauce!

Pair it with some hot nuggets and you will have a meal you will tell your friends about.

Pro tip: Timing is everything. Hit it up during off-peak hours unless you’re ready to battle the crowd.

5.     Visit Al Murabba Historical Palace

When I visited Al Murabba Historical Palace the first feeling I got was going straight to Riyadh’s royal past. If you love architecture then you will be impressed by the design of this place that tells you a story of the Saudia Arabian past.

I remember walking through the palace grounds, imagining what it must have been like during the reign of King Abdulaziz. I remember walking through the palace grounds, imagining what it must have been like during the reign of King Abdulaziz.

The palace itself is a work of art. Those giant wooden doors and old photographs on the walls make everything interesting.

THE BEST PART?

The museum inside gives you a peek into the history and culture that shaped today’s modern Riyadh.

It’s the kind of place where you can really feel the connection between the past and present.

6.     Hang Out at Almesainad District

If Riyadh had a neighborhood for cool kids then it would definitely be Almesainad District. This is the place where art, coffee, and creativity combine to give you an unforgettable experience.

Every time I head here, it feels like a mini adventure. What new café am I going to discover today? What random street art will I stumble across? It’s always a surprise, and I love it.

This district has that fun and lively energy that just pulls you in. Just grab a latte when you enter and wander around checking out murals (hello, Insta moments!), and maybe even catch a pop-up event or live music if you’re lucky.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD?

You will find all the Arabic classics here but my favorites are the Shawarma and some old-school desserts like the Kunafa.

Trust me, you’ll leave feeling refreshed and maybe even a little cooler than when you arrived.

7.     Visit Masmak Fortress

When you step into this place you will feel like reading the opening chapter of Saudi Arabia’s epic history. This isn’t just any normal building instead this is the place where the modern history of Riyadh began.

The fortress played a massive role in the unification of Saudi Arabia, and walking through its halls is like retracing the footsteps of legends.

Inside, I was amazed by the size of the old mudbrick walls and huge doors.

WHO BUILT THOSE!

The past is brought to life with things like old weapons, maps, and artifacts that tell the tale of Riyadh’s transformation. Plus, the staff are super friendly and love sharing interesting tidbits that you won’t find on Google.

The courtyard is my favorite spot in this fortress it is open, wide, and perfect for snapping a few pictures to keep the memories alive.

Masmak Fortress is one of those places that makes you feel connected to the city’s roots while giving you major “wow, this is cool” vibes.

8.     Explore the Diplomatic Quarter

The Diplomatic Quarter or DQ as those cool kids call it, is hands down my favorite modern place in Riyadh and that is for a number of reasons.

The place feels like an escape from the busy life and noisy streets of Riyadh. It’s calm, relaxing, and perfect to unwind on a weekend.

The lush green spaces all around make you feel like you just found a secret dream place in Riyadh because everything is so well-kept. The walking trails are perfect for a morning or late-night walk with a view of the fountains and those well-kept green fields.

There are also plenty of cafes where you can grab a coffee or bakeries serving up fresh pastries (don’t mind me stuffing my face with croissants).

If you are into fitness like me then the walking or cycling trails are perfect for those light exercises and stretching your legs.

AND

For culture enthusiasts, DQ has some beautiful mosques and art installations to check out along the way.

9.     Drop by Al Faisaliah Hotel

If you need a mix of luxury vibes with an unbeatable view then Al Faisaliah Hotel is for you but make sure your wallet is full before coming here.

This place isn’t just a hotel!

It’s an icon in Riyadh’s skyline, with its sleek tower and that famous glowing orb on top (seriously, you can’t miss it).

The real view arrives when you walk into the globe. I remember feeling like I was in a futuristic movie set with 360 views of Riyadh city.

Plus, sipping on coffee or tea while soaking up those views? Next level.

The hotel itself is probably the most famous one in Riyadh with a luxurious spa, and even a shopping mall right next door.

Al Faisaliah Hotel is the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression and impresses your friends.

10. End Your Adventure at Via Riyadh

To end your day on a good note visit VIA Riyadh and you will find luxury brands, entertainment, and upscale vibes all at one place.

Via Riyadh has over 20 different restaurants which includes restaurants from London, the US, and other countries. The first time I visited, I felt like I’d stepped into a whole other world with its sleek architecture, high-end shops, and glittering lights.

Whether you’re in the mood for some shopping at designer boutiques, catching the latest blockbuster at the luxury cinema, or just grabbing a fancy dinner, Via Riyadh has you covered.

The vibe here is just amazing, especially at night time when the lights are up, you will feel like you are walking around the streets of London on Christmas eve.
